Poetry Challenge

One of the things I’m enjoying about the Handmade Book Club are the monthly projects. In the club, the monthly projects are usually about learning new structures while over in the free group, Vintage Page Designs, they are theme challenges.  This month the theme was poetry.  Now I certainly don’t write poetry, and to be honest I don’t even read it very often, but now and then there have been poems that have impacted me deeply.  This past year it has been Mary Oliver’s poem about worry.  I also don’t letter very well, but I thought I would give it all a try with this project.  Here are some pictures of the inside pages.

March 2021 Collage-A-Day Part 2

March 2021 Collage-A-Day Part 2

These are the last of the black paper collages I’ve been making every day this month.  I found out it’s a lot more important to be really neat with adhesives on black paper (yikes!)

The next questions is – to bind or to box?

A Color Wheel of Collage Fodder

Here is a color wheel full of found and manipulated papers to keep fueling my March 2021 collage-a-day on black paper project.  In addition to the rice papers, some manipulated and some not, there are some ironed-flat plastics and some painted tree-trimming fibers.

March 2021 Collage-A-Day, Part 1

I decided March, 2021 would be the month I finally figured out a use for a 6×9 black paper pad I’ve had hanging around for quite some time.  I was originally inspired to buy it because my Atlanta Collage teacher Chery Baird made a beautiful series inspired by a trip she used to Alaska.  I had a vague notion of focusing on using a lot of my more fodder and rice papers. And yes, there was a color scheme at play.  Years ago I read a book by Louise Hay that matched up numerology with colors, assigning each year, month, and day with a color, individualized to each person based on their birthday (I know, I know).  Anyway, it gave me a structure to work with.  This photo shows where I am about half way through the month.
