I’ve been meditating from another perspective lately.  In my ongoing, oxymoronic
habit of multi-tasking my meditation practice, I’ve been using the time to rest in a legs-up-the-wall position.
There are several documented benefits to this posture – calming the nervous system, reversing fluid retention and my personal favorite, stretching hamstrings and relaxing the back.  If you’re me, anyway, it turns out that a lot happens when you’re upside down for 25 minutes.  When I start out, one foot is typically about three inches higher than the other.  Over time, there’s a bunch of involuntary wiggling and what feels like sticky gear shifting in an old car.  By the time I hear the gentle tones of my meditation timer, my feet are even, but they are also asleep.  The dismounts are not elegant.
I highly recommend it.
